As I said the spying on citizens done by the government is not going to stop the terrorism. As a matter of fact it will bring on more of it. I will give you an obvious example. USA is doing the drone attacks in Afghanistan and they are targeting those who according to data collected through spying could be dangerous to USA. But it has been proven that the drone attacks kill also innocent people ( including children ) and whenever this happens then there is always somebody who swears before god that he will take revenge on the Americans. And the same applies to those who are being punished or abused by the government inside of USA but they believe ( it doesn't mean that they are right ) in their mind that they are right and then they want to take revenge as well. Once you lose everything ( your possessions, your family etc. ) and you were innocent or at least you believed that you were innocent then you wouldn't care that the USA has the best military in the world. In your pain and sorrow you will take a knife and you will try to take revenge. You will do it on your own or you will join some organized groups ( like Al-Qaeda ) and you will fight against every American that comes close to you and sometimes you will succeed. This is what is happening in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries.
But the violence leads to more violence and the more oppression breeds more resistance.
And thus I don't see it that the Afghans will give up their fight and the desire to take revenge on the Americans. Ask yourself the question...
What would you do if the American or any other government killed your child or entire family ? What would you do if the soldiers or the police tied up your wife and raped her in front of you and you could do nothing about it ? What would you do if you were put to jail because you were uncomfortable activist to the government and they have fabricated false evidence and the judge has sentenced you to jail ?
Maybe you would do nothing but there are people out there who will not rest until they take revenge. But again... this only breeds more violence and carries more consequences because once you succeed with your terrorist attack then the American government will spend more money on development of new technologies to spy even more. And I will not be surprised if there somebody already working on development of technology to spy on our thoughts... just like in the movie "Minority reports" with Tom Cruise.
But again... this would bring more oppression from the government and then more resistance and more violence from the people. This is never ending cycle which will never bring any peaceful solution. It is all based on the separation. And the reason for it is that we want to treat the symptoms and not the real cause of all the problems, pains and sickness in the society. If we spent all the money on creating abundance in Afghanistan instead of spending it on military equipment and war we would have peace in there already long time ago.
